Why won't my WIFI work?

I have a Medion laptop and it has a wifi button and acts like it should have wifi but when pressed nothing happens. Nothing even shows up in the network connections.
What WiFi connection are you using? Which WiFi router do you have? Does it connect properly on a wired network?
