Water damage, black screen.
I dropped my phone in water, retrieved it quickly, dried it off, and I wasn't home to put it in rice right away, so about two hours later I put it in rice for 24 hours. During this time I did try turning it on, which I know I shouldn't have. When I first took my phone out of the water it worked and everything, but I did not use it other than to see that it still turned on. 24 hours later it is still dead, and I just recently tried charging it to see what would happen and nothing occurred but the phone would get heated up in the back. Just a moment ago it turned on as it was plugged in; it vibrated and lit up, however it was only a black screen. Is all hope lost? Has this happened to anyone else?
Any help will be appreciated!

Cate, the first thing I suggest doing is to not longer try to turn it on or charge it. It is easily possible that you are shortening out parts on the logic board i.e. the power management IC. That could be the cause for heating up. If anything, disassemble your phone using these guides. Once you have that done, clean your phone with high grade isopropyl alcohol and this guide. It was written for a 3g but all the points are valid for your phone as well. Once its clean, replace the battery and re-evaluate for further (if any) damage. Hope this helps, good luck.
Thank you so much for replying, I really appreciate it! I will definitely try this. But just a moment ago my phone buzzed on, but it lit up with a black screen. Does this mean anything?
Cate,
Black screen can be caused by a bad LCD, or a bad backlight IC/coil. or corrosion damage on the LCD connector:-(
Oh shoot, I guess that's what I get for not taking care of my phone more carefully. Thanks again for your help!
Cate,
