Only booting in safe mode cant get AHT running

History

What still works is:

  • Mac Pro starts to boot
  • gives the chime
  • Apple logo,
  • spinning wheel
  • blue/gray screen
  • HDD seems to do some more but the screen stays blue/gray.

Thats it.

In save mode it does boot completely.

Please advice in which steps to take to find the cause of this problem.

Extra info:

Mac Pro

2.66GHZ Xeon quad core.

2x512MB RAM

2x1GB RAM

250GB HDD in bay 1 (OSX 10.5.8)

250GB HDD in bay 3 (data)

Clean install of Snow Leopard.

This setup also only boots in save mode....

Is there any trick to start AHT ? Verbose mode maybe?

Where did you run AHT from the DVD or HD? You need to run it from the HD in safe mode.

Dan,

I tried from dvd with the D pressed white booting. how do i run it from HDD?

Rene,

You can also try to exit Safe mode follow Advance step #3 from this Apple TN http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455

Dan,

Copy AHT to your HD and try it again

Dan,
