No Apple logo/backlight on boot, but black screen w/backlight and func

History

Hey everyone,

I just did a sleep/wake button cable replacement and I think I damaged the LCD or digitizer cables.

If I boot the iPhone, I get basically no response - black screen, no backlight. Once I wait a while and the phone "starts up", the backlight comes on if I press home or sleep/wake (presumably at the home screen), it rings when I get a call, and vibrates when I toggle the switch. The digitizer does not appear to work if I swipe where the unlock bar normally is.

Any ideas what it is, or should I suck it up and replace both the digitizer and LCD?

Thanks for your input!

Oh I'll also mention: if I plug it into my speaker dock and use those controls, or plug the Apple headphones in, I can get it to play music and everything. Peculiar that the backlight doesn't come on until booted up though..?

Hi, first I would recommend u remove the battery and then try to switch on the phone. If this doesnt help you then I think u have damaged something related to the display. Unfortunately, like the 3gs u cannot swap displays with another phone unless u disassemble the other phone. But this can be done and the cables will be at an awkward angle, so be careful. Check for connections under a microscope if all fails to see if there is any scratches on the tracks. Also check the cable end where it connects to the display and digitizer. Hope this helps. Write back what happened. Good luck.
