Water damaged MacBook boots, plays sound, but no display?

History

So this macbook is a 2008 model. Originally it wouldn't do anything but after a cleaning on the logic board it will boot, play the boot sound, and activate the fans but the display is blank.

I do not have the external display adapter, but is there any other method I can use to test to see if the screen died or the GPU is messed up?

the battery holds a charge, and it seems like everything is ok as far as I can tell. The laptop does not have a hard drive so it wouldn't work completely, but I'm hoping to see a boot screen.

Look at the screen from an angle with a light on it. Can you see a faint image?

Unless you have a spare screen you'll just have to get that video adapter.

I bought a video display adapter but it doesn't show anything. I don't have a hard drive for it so I was wondering if the external only activates after OS loads.
