Turns on,apple logo, click button and shuts off

I was changing the casing of my iPod Classic 80GB, and when I was finished I had a problem.
The iPod turns on, and loads the apple screen and sometimes even the menu but as soon as I click the click wheel or change the position of the hold switch it shuts off. The hdd makes a clicking sound as if it had lost power instantly.
So it turns on, but as soon as I click something, it turns off. It seems like it's shorting itself out or something when I push down on the click wheel, if that's even possible.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any help!
