"Service Battery" Message Removal?

How does one remove the following message. Is it as simple as resetting PRAM/SMC?. Steps on how a solution can be sought would be most helpful :)
(I'm aware the easiest way is to buy a new battery, but surely there is an alternative)

You can reset the controller "smart" chip in your battery that talks to the SMC and operating system to see different values. The steps to resetting it are Techy, rather involved and a PITA. The chances are that the chip reset will soon see the cells have degraded even further, not seeing the amperage they need to see and the error will come back again. If you do a google on "Apple hacks of the battery" you can find all the info necessary to do it, besides the specific instructions.
