Itunes won't recognise iPhone after dock connector replacement!

I'm at school, and trying to make some money fixing iPhones. My most recent purchase was a "water damaged" iphone 4 (the only broken part was the home button ribbon socket).
I replaced the dock connector, and put it all back together.
I pushed the power button and it showed the no battery sign. I then plugged it in the computer, it showed the charging sign, then it disappeared. After a few minutes the phone powered up. Everything worked fine, except it wasn't showing the charging symbol at the top in the battery, and it wasn't recognised by itunes.
This seemed wierd, as the homebutton was working, so I assume the dock connector assembly is fine.
I then switched the phone off, and checked inside, everything seems OK.
The phone now won't switch on at all............
