Why does the light stay frozen during calls?

History

I am having problems using my iphone4 during calls. The screen does not automatically lock to prevent any part of my skin or face from touching it. When my skin touches the screen it would either go mute, hold, divert to speaker phone or calls another in my contact list. The person i'm talking to then cannot hear me suddenly when in mute or hold. What can I do to resolve this?

The proximity emitter or more likely the proximity sensor is not working correctly. Usually there is interference present, like a case or screen protector at top of iPhone. Remove case or screen protector. Sometimes the proximity needs physical barrier separation, or the sensor needs protection like black sharpie on screen or scotch tape and black sharpie on the sensor.

Thanks Brad.

i know a weird idea that worked on my touch screen phones and my friends i phone 4s, if you have a front plate put it or use earphones with a microphone

@ Reagan Games, how would that fix the proximity sensor?
