Which soldering station to use when working on iPhone4 logicboard
I was looking at the 2 soldering stations that ifixit offers. I want to know if the $24.95 economy one would be good for working on iphone logic boards. The $99 pro soldering station is temperature controlled. I really don't want to pay $99. Not really sure what the difference is.
Thanks.

It really depends on a number of things. What kind of soldering are you doing on the logic board? Because of how small and squeezed together the components on the iPhone's logic board are, I would say your first priority once you get a soldering iron should be to find a very fine tip for it.
As for the different stations, I can provide some insight. I have used our economy soldering station as well as the Weller unit we use in our lab. I have successfully performed surface-mount soldering and de-soldering with the economy unit to refurbish Nintendo Wii DVD drives with no problems. It definitely does its job, but the higher quality unit seems to maintain the proper temperature better.

The blue soldering station tip ifixit sells says it's good for logic board work and it's the same one that comes with the soldering station. Why are you saying my first priority should be to get a very fine tip. Also not what the difference is between the 2 tips sold on ifixit. I'm looking to fix the battery connector on an iphone 4 Really appreciate you expertise and help.
