The back of the iPhone 5 is a back case. It is virtually the entire iPhone, so will be among the hardest iPhone procedures. At least there is no bezel to figure out how to remove and transfer.

Brad is correct, The rear case is now the body of the phone. To replace this you would need to perform a full teardown. If you would like to take a look then here is the link for the Teardown guide: iPhone 5 Teardown

you can buy them here for $188

but as brad said, it would be a fairly massive job if you have no repair experience

That teardown is a bit brutal on some of the parts. :)

What about the glass parts of the back case? If one of those is shattered, can you remove it from the outside and glue a new one in? I know they're matched by super robots or whatever, but since that's the most likely damaged part on the back it seems like a pain to dismantle the entire thing to replace that glass. :/
