wont power on unless plugged in

Ok here is a strange one. I purchase an iphone on ebay to repair and the user was selling as they replaced the case and phone was powering down all the time.
I changed the battery for a new one yet still had same issue that phone will only power on when plugged in.
I was just about to put the motherboard in another phone when it come on without me pressing the power button. I found if I put the iseasamo opening tool down the left hand side of the phones screen it would power on.
Could someone point me in the right direction for a fix for this issue
