iPhone 3G Display not working after Home Button lead broke

I had ordered a new LCD screen after my phone fell. But to my surprise it started working again without me having to replace the screen. I found that the connectors had come off during the fall.
But recently I tried to fiddle around with the home button leads trying to fix an unresponsive button, eventually breaking one of the leads.
Now I'm getting a blank display though it connects to itunes and charges as well. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the broken home button lead. Would soldering the lead back help? any other thoughts?
