iPhone keeps sticking/freezing. Tried to reboot but continues to freez

My iPhone 3G keeps freezing up on all screens and will not allow me to type in anything. I can see a text come in on my home screen but can not respond. when I slide to unlock it will take up to 3 minutes to unlock then I can only view my other screens but can not use apps or phone. I took my phone to the AT&T store and the clerk showed me how to "reset" it but that does not help. The closest Apple store is 3 hours away. Please Help1!
