Keyboard and trackpad stopped responding

At first the keyboard and trackpad stopped working only after the computer had been in a long sleep (closed lid). After a restart it would start working again. A few weeks later it just stopped working and now I have to use a wireless keyboard and mouse. The power button and both USB's both work. I can also still do a SMC reset with the built in keyboard but that does not fix it. I have also reset the PRAM using the wireless keyboard. I tried formatting and reinstalling Mountain Lion but that didn't fix it either. Im thinking it is a hardware problem but I don't know where to look first.
