How do I recover photos from my dead logic board?

hi there all, im hoping you can help me, i fix iphones as a side job (dont tell the taxman tho!) a friend has given me his iphone 3g to look at and the problem is hes in the army and a 1 tonne landrover ran over his army rucksack which contained his iphone. he said hes tried to hook it upto itunes but it wont do anything, he just wants his photos of his late father off the phone (he never backed it up!) , hes not bothered if the phone isnt going to work afterwards.

so when he gave me it, the rear case and all the front was smashed in (not suprisingly really!) but what was suprising was the logic board was not broken or even bent but will not connect to itunes and wont charge from any lead. I have obviously put the logic board into a 100% working 3g casing but the same happens - no charge and no hook up to itunes. I tried ringing up a data recovery system but to be told its going to be £375 then vat on the top it was heart breaking for my friend who doesnt have that kind of money. is there any other way to recover his photos? somebody please help, id like to be able to do it for free so that i can do it for free, i dont want to charge this guy as hes been through soo much pain this last few months. many thanks in advance from both myself and on behalf of my friend. i hope to be able to put a smile onto his face.

regards and best wishes, darren

something i forgot to mention thouh is that when it is hooked up to a mains cable for charging the board does emit i high pitch humming/buzzing noise and also i have checked with a working 3g board all the components and chips underneath the heat shields and there is nothing that appears to be missing.

Darren, the main part to remember here is that the iPhone stores the information on the NAND IC's. So, the only chance would be to get this phone to work and get the pictures off. Try a new dock connector and see if it makes a difference. Of course, also change the battery.
