bad reception and replaced aerial cable with the part for the CDMA/4s

ok so I did a tear down, broke my original cable, ordered a new one put it in, got awful reception and only have realised that I have the longer cable that the original which is for the CDMA/4S could this be the problem for my bad reception? I have tried pretty much everything else
