Is removing cracked iSight glass possible?

History

The built-in webcam on my macbook has a crack right down the center of the cover glass. I am hoping I can avoid the only solution that Apple recommends for this damage - replacing the entire LCD screen. WTF?

After hours of Googling for a step by step repair guide and closely watching a dozen DIY Youtube vids, I still don't know if the bezel on my screen can be lifted at that section and the broken glass component is removable, or if once the bezel is entirely removed a new replacement part webcam can be installed.

I have replaced a smashed iphone 4 screen so I am not afraid to take on an intermediate level repair myself.

Any help?

Yes- iFixit even has the part. And a guide.

Hi, thanks for your advice mackhead3, but I thought my description was clear enough - the LCD screen is perfect. The WEBCAM glass is cracked down the middle of the iSight webcam. This is located at the top of the screen. Also, please note my model has the anti-glare screen - there is no 'glass' covering this screen, just a bezel bezel surround.

Reuben Miller,

If you mean the camera lens - I think you'll have to replace the camera.
