What distinguishes iPod Touch 2nd and 3rd Generations?
What other factors (apart from HD capacity) distinguish the 2nd generation Touch from the 3rd generation? Are they mostly interchangeable parts, such as the LCD, digitizer, etc?
Thanks!

The main difference is the 3rd Generation has Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and the 2nd Generation does not. Also the battery for music Playback on 3 Generation is 30 hours max and the 2nd Generation is listed as 36 hours playback time. Most likely due to the absence of Bluetooth.

And according to the www.ifixit.com web site the LCD Screens are different.

3rd Generation iPod Touches have the Model Number: A1318
2nd Generation iPod Touches have the Model Number: A1288
On The Outside, they are identical.
1st Generation iPod Touches Look Completly Different. (Flat Back, Rectangular Wifi Antenna, Not rounded around the front)
The 2nd gen, and 3rd Gen 8GB models, are hardware identical as well, 32GB's are different for each generation, and there was no 2nd gen 64GB, and no 3rd gen 16GB.

The 32G and 64G versions of the 3rd generation have twice the RAM and a faster processor as compared to the 2nd generation. Here's a comparison: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/iPod_Touch#...

What confuses me is that the tear down for the 2nd gen touch has a sticky mylar film under the LCD that can be peeled off while the 3rd gen teardown shows a metal plate with screws. Meanwhile, my 2nd gen 8gb touch has the metal plate with screws. This 2nd gen 8gb was a more recent version (still A1288) so was there an incremental update to the iPod infrastructure?
