Home button won't work. What part do I replace?

I have an iPhone 3GS which is not only in great shape, with a mint screen, but no cracks or any damage. Oddly enough, the home button doesn't work. Obviously I can use the phone without one, though it's highly annoying.

Any thoughts on how I could repair this? Would it be the home button itself, or the entire front panel? I looked for iPhone 3GS repair guides, and saw nothing for the home button repair.
