intermittent backlight after replacing thermal paste

Hi there, i replaced the cpu thermal paste following the great ifixit guide but since then then screen backlight goes off when the screen is past a certain angle (image still there but v dark). I've read that a cable could be pinched and causing this, is this cable possibly effected by the thermal paste job or is it just very bad luck and coincidence of something wearing out?

Taken it apart again, the only thing that i can think may have affected the inverter cable was the external screw near the hinge, maybe overtightening this was the cause? not that i did it that tight! the very thin silver cable going around the hinge and into the plastic hinge cover i think is the mic cable yes? other than that i think this is coincidence. The inverter cable doesn't 'pull' at all when the lid is moved so its not disconnecting a connector, its the cable itself. Looks like an 'exciting' job to replace this! Just as i was bragging how long-lived the macbook was to a mate!
