MacBook Pro 17" Models A1151 A1212 A1229 and A1261: No AirPort card installed °_° (wifi crash)

I've got a big problem with my airport card.

I've got a Mac Book Pro 17" 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (Model Number: A1261) of 2008. My airport card worked very well till one day that I lost my connection unexpectedly. The only one message is: "Airport: Off" and "Turn Airport On" but although I try to turn it on the airport stays off. I've changed the card, thinking that was the problem, but isn't it. Now my Airpor work well at Mac startup and after a random time she goes off. When she's off the only way I can rekindle it is to restart the Mac.

I thought it can be a software problem and I've format my Mac several times with no results. The problem still the same.

Searching through internet I've found that there is a little card under the Airport card that can be the problem. With iFixit I've found the part and the guide to how to change it but before spending $100 I thought I'd ask here if it really can be the problem or not.

Do you have any ideas?

PS:

When the connection drops is always the same thing, If i click at the Wifi connection icon the only thing it said to me is: "No AirPort card installed". Isn't never a sleep problem and for the software is the same thing, isn't the same app running, sometimes i was running mail and sometimes only safari or OS updates.

I was thinking at the temperature problem too cause, sometimes, when i was using the ac/dc connection it seams to crash a little quickier than normal but it can be only my impression.

I am having terrible signal with my MacBook....

Its become unusable. I only get signal when my mac is next to the router. or within very very close range, it cuts out when im more than a meter away. I have a large antenna on my router, my pc is able to get full signal upstairs and my iPhone gets full signal when on the third level. Just wondering what i can do to resolve this issue?

I have a d-link wireless router... I notice i get a small improvement in signal strength when i have the laptop open at a 95 degree angle...

Hmm maybe my airport extreme card is on its way out? or the antenna in the lcd assembly is broken... orrrr maybe i need a airport base.. my router is old now, from 2005...

MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2009: Why does my wifi not come up (the camera doesn't work either)?

Why does my wifi not come up (the camera doesn't work either)? It's a 2.53 GHz Mid 2009 model.

I have a distinct feeling I forgot something...A friend of mine spilled coffee on her MacBook Pro 13 inch and gave it to me. I replaced the keyboard (the bottom case) and everything works accept the camera and the wifi...(the wifi acts as though it's not there at all!). I have the distinct feeling I forgot something!

Update

OK, now that I'm positive that the cable behind the clutch cover is the problem I have two questions.

Can you remove the clutch cover WITHOUT removing the glass?

If so, where can I get a replacement cable?

Update 2

I have removed the clutch cover and found the other end of the cable. It splits into two, one goes into the airport (I think) and the other goes behind the glass, I assume that goes to the camera. While the computer was on, I wiggled the cable on the logic board end and got the camera to turn on.

Conclusion so far: I am 100% positive the cable is broken. I'm 50% sure I'm not going to be able to replace it without removing the glass. Any help on this would be awesome!

Update 3

OKAY after obsessing over this for the last 2 hours I kept messing with the plug on the logic board until the camera turned on...now it works and so does bluetooth. Are my troubles finished there?! NOPE, the wifi still isn't on...well I'm going to have to put this down at some point it might as well be now. Any updates...comments...help...is greatly appreciated.

iPhone 3G: iPhone 3G wifi not working - solution

Hello,

i have some news, for the people who's wifi is not working.

i tried many things and now have more concrete facts about this problem.

my wifi can't find any networks.

first i thought that the problem is the wifi antenna.

on ebay there are many "wifi antennas".

all the vendors tell that this antenna http://www.traderscity.com/board/userpix... handels the wifi. but its not.

i disconnected it at a phone where wifi was working.

after disconnecting wifi still worked, but gps was not working.

so the wifi antenna must be somewhere else.

i think that this part http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sk... handels the wifi and the 3G.

i changed this part, but the phone was still not finding any networks.

so i thought, that the wifi chip on the logicboard maybe broken.

so i wanted to make another test and i installed the jailbroken app called "mywii".

with this app you can open a ad hoc network with your phone.

and it works.

so the wifi chip is not broken.

wifi antenna and chip are working fine. but phone is not finding any networks. this is very strange.

i have no idea what the problem can be.

but its not the antenna and not the wifi chip.

i also tried to reset network settings, made a update and restore. but nothing works.

iPod Touch 1st Generation: Communication board heating up & draining battery

My 16GB 1st gen battery would not hold a charge for more than an hour or two in ANY 'active' or 'sleep' mode, even after getting a NEW battery (wifi, push, alarms, music etc. all off.) That's when I noticed the Ipod was becoming very warm. I opened it up and was feeling the various innards to see where the heat was coming from. At first it seemed the heat was coming from the large metal piece dead center of the communications board ( On the logic board repair guide for this ipod please see Picture 3 of Step 6) Then I realized, as I BURNT my finger, that the heat was coming from the collection of little squares next to the big metal plate (by the screw circled on the right) in the same picture. It's possible the heat is coming from something underneath this board or the screw itself (we're working on opening it up further, but have a stripped screw issue we're dealing with.) I was wondering if anyone knows what those little squares are. Any idea of what is causing this issue. Suggestions we can try to fix this problem? I do NOT care if we get the wifi working I just want the ipod to be able to HOLD a charge and obviously something on the comm board is draining it. Thanks all!

MacBook Pro 15" Core Duo Model A1150: Why does my computer have intermittent and weak wireless connection?

My computer has intermittent and weak wifi connection with any number of networks. My computer can show full bars, go to no connection back up to 2 or 3 bars and repeat, all in the course of 5 minutes or 3 hours while sitting in the same place, on any number of networks. Occasionally I will have connection but report a self assigned IP or no IP address at all. I can be in the other room or 2 feet from the router and get the same results. Running network diagnostics most often shows that the connection fails at the ISP level onward. When running diagnostic does fix whatever is going on, any network changes it notifies me of are not noticeable anywhere. Connecting to any given network via ethernet cable renders no problems at all.

I wanted to know if there is a definitive way to check the functionality of the different components involved (ie. antenna, airport, connections, etc...) or see if it's a software issue. I'd like to avoid a situation where I buy a new airport card only to find out it wasn't bad in the first place. If you have the answer already, that's cool too.

Supplementary information:

MBP Purchased mid 2006

1yo replaced logic board

Original airport card

1yo HD upgrade

Screen hinges have been tightened several times in the past year.

Thanks in advance for the help. Sorry if there are any red hearings here.

*Since the cover is not from the original phone, and neither is the motherboard, the model listed to the right might not be accurate, because the motherboard is a 4gig and the cover says 8gig on it.

iPhone 3G: Wifi signal very low after repair

Cut a long story short, I have become slightly addicted to repairing my own phone after apple keep trying to rob me in full daylight. The screen cracked a while back and I stripped it, replaced it and put it back together, everything went great and from that moment on, I failed to understand how they could quote me like £130 to fix it?

So anyway, recently it stopped charging, worked until the battery went dead, I again visited apple and they diagnosed water damage to logic board, £140 (How so when it worked fine until battery died) so I narrowed it down myself and discovered all that needed replacing was the dock connector, done, back in great....however the WIFI signal is rubbish, I've put connector 6 back on right but it's just not what it used to be. I can stand literally 2 meters away from my router and have 2 bars?

Has anyone got any idea what's happening....

NB: Sorry, I didn't exactly keep it as short as I'd planned.

We use the iTouch and a special App in secure areas for certain calculations - however they are now banned because of WiFi and Bluetooth -

It is not OK to just turn it off, has to be physically disabled, totally removed so can not be turned on accidentally. this is true in most secure areas in world, also true near any ordnance or explosives (HERO) and will soon become true for Oil and Gas installations and platforms.

We have had no problem taking apart the iPad and removing antennas, but zero luck with iTouch - need help -- wrecked about six so far .... We need help desperate !!!

How do we remove iTouch WiFi Bluetooth antenna and get back together ? - where is it or any other ideas how to totally disable or cook both WiFi and Blue-tooth in iTouch..

iPod Touch 1st Generation: A replacement for the gold antenna?

I had two broken iPod touches that I turned into one fully functioning ipod. The leftover broken one still boots and doesn't have a back light, but I don't want to spend the money to repair it. Instead I want to jailbreak it and turn it into a media or storage server.

The problem is, I broke the little gold antenna in half, and I lost one of the halves. It still detects wifi networks, but will not connect, and I've tried multiple networks.

Is there a replacement that can be found somewhere, or something else that can be used in it's place, such as foil? I've tried a gum wrapper already, but that did not work. The cheaper the solution, the better. Thanks!

*EDIT*

I tried a piece of a foil gum wrapper. My wifi works now. I'm not sure if the wrapper did it, but I know that I don't want to touch it, now that it works.

iPhone 3G: iPhone does not detect WiFi networks. What are my options?

Hello,

I have recently discovered that I cannot use my WiFi at all. Apparently my iPhone has become victim to water damage. I don't know how this is possible since I am very careful with it. I can't remember getting it wet or even near water. Anyways, I took it to an Apple store and they took a look at it and said that two of the water damage indicators have turned red or something. I no longer have warranty and this isn't covered under warranty anyways. My only option through them is to buy another phone.

Everything on the phone works fine EXCEPT the WiFi. Under settings the phone just doesn't find any networks.

What are my options as far as fixing this problem? Could I simply replace the logic board?

MacBook Unibody Model A1278: Why Airport still has no functionality?

Hello guys :)

At first: sorry for my bad english...i'm german.

I have a big issue with my MacBook 13" Unibody 2,0 Ghz. A few weeks ago i damaged the connector from the iSight, Bluetooth & Airport Cable that goes to the Mainboard. So i bought a new one and everything works exept the Airport. I thought i have damaged my old Airport card through my repair-session so i bought a new airport card from ebay. The seller from the card meant that the card isn't new but has 100% functionality. But after i replaced the new airpord card with the new one i still have no connectivity. OS X said, that "no airport-card is installed". Resetting PRAM and the other solutions doesn't work. Windows 7 via BootCamp still doesn't find a wifi-card too in the device manager.

So what can be the issue? Maybe the new card is damaged too? Or the connector that connects the airport card with the cable that i written? And when the airport card is the issue....can it be only the card or maybe the card + the antennas there next to the card?

One other small question? the cable that i plugged in the card has at one side a small white dot on it...in which direction the dot should looked to? to the user (away from the lcd) or to the lcd panel?

I hope anyone understand what i want to ask ;)

Greetings

iPhone 3GS: Howto replace broken WiFi on iPhone 3GS

Hello,

My iPhone has very poor WiFi connectivity. A week ago everything worked fine, but now only way I can connect to a WiFi is standing right in front of it. After a meter/yard WiFi quality drops dramatically.

My 3G (as in 3G connectivity, not the iPhone 3G) seems ok. No problems there.

I have tried removing software, restoring to factory defaults etc. but nothing worked. My other Apple devices (iPhone 2G, iPad2, macbook pro) all work fine (so the Wifi access point is not the problem).

By the way, my iPhone is not jailbroken.

I checked iFixit repair guides but am not able to find a WiFi replacement manual. Can someone point the WiFi part out in a existing iPhone 3GS repair guide (or even better: is someone willing to write a WiFi repair guide and put it online)?

iPhone 4: No WiFi and Bluetooth After Water Damage, Any Fixes?

So my phone sustained water damage, and I did the epic rice treatment for Day 1. The following day I took it to a smartphone "clinic" where they took it apart and soaked it in a chem bath. They were able to clean it out and get it up and running, however, bluetooth and wifi do not work. WiFi is "grayed" out, and the bluetooth setting just keeps showing the spinner. GSM works perfect, as I am able to make and receive calls, use 3G data, etc. I'm wondering if the Broadcom chip that controls WiFi and Bluetooth is shorted, and if there is anything that can be done to restore this functionality.

iPod Touch 4th Generation: After replacing Front Panel - weak Wifi Signal strength?

Hi,

I successfully replaced the Front Panel (with some drawbacks, I broke the Volume/Power Flex Cable while disassembling the iPod) but now the Wifi Signal strength seems lower than before, especially when my hand is in the near of the upper left corner where the antenna is located.

The Wifi Antenna is still connected to the logic board (I guess, as I would'nt have any signal if it was disconnected?).

I don't remember if there was any connection between the Wifi Antenna and the iPod Steelcase for better connectivity.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

iPod Touch 1st Generation: Wifi detected but will not connect.

I have a 16gb first gen touch that the Wifi stopped working on. It will detect networks with full strength, but after asking for the security key it will say unable to connect. I have restored as well as upgraded and downgraded firmware. It isn't firmware or software. I wouldn't mind opening it if I have too, but wondering what could be causing the problem.
