Apple Time Capsule: What's the biggest HDD that will fit on my Time Capsule?

Hi guys! Big fan of yours as you've saved my butt on a couple of occasions for my Macbook 13". I just did an HDD upgrade for my Macbook and was wondering if I could do the same for Time Capsule... and I can! Prior to entering to this task, I'd like to ask you:

What's the biggest HDD (2GB/4GB) that can fit inside the Time Machine as a replacement?

I'm looking for a 7200rpm or faster drive, which would you recommend.

The guide that's on the site talks about a hybrid because its silent. I don't want silent, I want fast and spacious.

As always, thanks for all your support! Great work on the disassemblies!!!

Apple Time Capsule: What really different with the new Time Capsules & AirPort Extremes?

Hello,

Apple recently updated their Time Capsules and AirPort Extremes, with no official announcements as to what was updated even though their part numbers have changed.

This website did a quick teardown of the time capsule and they didn't find and changes to the hardware.

One can argue that the time capsules update was to go from 1TB & 2TB to 2TB & 3TB. But what was the reason behind the AirPort Extreme update??

IFixIt.com are you able to work your magic and dissect one?

Time Capsule:

Old (2TB): MC344LL/A

New (2TB): MD032LL/A

AirPort Extreme:

Old: MC340LL/A

New: MD031LL/A

MacBook Pro 13'" 22 Unibody Mid 2010: New hard drive vs time machine!

Hi, I recently upgraded the hard drive for a 750G on a macbook pro. Every thing went smooth and worked perfect. Except for one detail. I cloned the old drive to the new one and took it from there. Everything worked fine, but when I plugged in the Time Machine, it recognised the new hard drive on the computer and it doesnt let me acces to all my previos backups! Instead, it wants to do the initial back up, like the one it does when you use it for the first time.

Does anyone know how can I "tell" my time machine to stop doing this and let me access to all my back ups??

Thanks

Apple Time Capsule: TC won't boot after drive replacement

I have a 1TB Time Capsule model A1254. Not sure exactly how old it is, but likely 3+ years if not more. A year or so ago, the hard drive started to die -- I could hear clicking and noises from within the unit and the TC functionality itself became spotty.

Recently, I decided to dig the TC up and see if I could replace the hard drive to bring it back to life. I followed the excellent manual located here on iFixIt and replaced the drive with a 1.5TB Seagate model.

After replacing the drive and powering the TC, the front light lights green for a few seconds, the fan started to go, and then everything shuts down. It does this every time I try to plug it in. If I replace the old hard drive back in the TC, it boots up with an amber light (which is what it did before.)

Thinking that it might be the power draw from the new hard drive, I checked the power consumption specs. The old drive consumes .680A @ 5V and .850A @ 12V. The new drive consumes .720A @ 5V and .520A @ 12V. Power consumption shouldn't be the issue - the new drive consumes less @ 12V and only .04A more @ 5V.

Just for grins, I also tried a 2.5" laptop drive and it produced the same result - green light for a moment, then powered off. It can't be drawing more than the original 3.5" desktop drive.

Any other thoughts here on what this could be? Possible, I guess, that the power supply is simply dying as has been mentioned so often previously, but the unit powers up with an amber light with the old drive, so I don't think that's it.

Is there anything special I have to do to the new drive in order to get it to be recognized? I formatted it MacOS Journaled but that didn't produce any special results.

Thanks in advance.
