iPhone 3GS: iPhone crashes when I plug it in (reboots to "no power")

I've been through the whole "3gs crashes randomly & reboots to no power screen" thing, where it used to crash out even when the battery had plenty of power. Only way to recover it was to plug it in...so I figured battery problem and replaced with one from ifixit. New battery worked great for a couple weeks, but now it crashes. Will leave it to charge overnight and come back to unresponsive phone "no power" screen. Very rarely can I get it to come back to life, even with restore on PC. Seems if I leave it off power for a few days (battery drains) then maybe, sometimes it restarts. But I often then find that when I go to plug it back in (to sync) or charge up later, it just crashes again the second it gets power. Bad fuse? Bad battery? Bad software? Any ideas would be very appreciated.
