Sim tray eject mechanism won't fit?

I have fully disassembled the iphone 3g, but when I decided to reassemble it onto the new back housing, the sim tray eject mechanism won't screw into it! I tried to screw it back into its original casing, but now it won't fit in that either! The screw won't fit in either of the holes!
