Will replacing the front camera make it work?

This [guide|3146|guide] allow to remove the front camera, and presumably change it to another one.

A few months ago, I dropped my phone and shattered the front glass. Someone did the replacement and everything worked, except the front camera. Now I'm wondering if it is a good idea to replace the front camera, seeing that for some people ([http://modmyi.com/forums/hardware/752049-help-iphone-4-front-camera-not-working-details.html|here]) that didn't work at all.

So, first is replacing the front panel part of the problem I'm having? And second, did anybody managed to fix the front camera issue by replacing it?
