I have witnessed three 5th gen ipodsiPods, all 30GB, after being reformatted(to Mac and Windows), all being unable to go further than the language configuration window. It seems as if the click wheel is non-responsive, yet applying a soft reset works perfectly fine. Hold switch also works fine. When plugging ipodiPod to computer, itunes brings up ipodiPod as normal and music or vid transfers works fine, as well as playing of music or video from itunes or desktop icon. Using ipodiPod as external drive also works fine. I need expert suggestons.
