Ethernet Connection Not Working When Cable is Plugged In

My WIFI connection works just fine with my computer. I am not able to connect to the internet if I plug in a ethernet and disable the WIFI. I have been told by the Apple store that the port is not working correctly. I would like to find out how I can replace this port/connection.
