Water damaged MacBook boots, plays sound, but no display?

So this macbook is a 2008 model, I bought it in a trade for about 60 bucks and have been trying to fix itmodel. Originally it wouldn't do anything but after a cleaning on the logic board it will boot, play the boot sound, and activate the fans but the display is blank.

I do not have the external display adapter, but is there any other method I can use to test to see if the screen died or the GPU is messed up?
the battery holds a charge, and it seems like everything is ok as far as I can tell. The laptop does not have a hard drive so it wouldn't work completely, but I'm hoping to see a boot screen.
