After replacement of Power & Sensor Cable, LCD is defective

The Power Button of my iPhone 4 was sunk in, so I replaced the Power & Sensor Cable. Now the button works perfectly again, but after I turned the device on, I was shocked, that the LCD display had a very big error, see the picture:

I'm pretty sure that I have to replace the Display Assembly.
But I wonder what could have caused this error, because I don't want to do the same mistake again.
