How do I know if I have water damage?

My brand new macbook pro has been acting up and I was wondering how to check the water damage stickers to see if I may have gotten water damage somehow. My computer has been getting super hot when I'm using it, and I am ensuring that there is proper ventilation. Also, the batter won't last for more than three hours with the keyboard lights off, and the brightness all the way down? Does this sound like water damage? And is there any way I can check the water damage stickers myself? I would like to find out ASAP and am unable to get to a store.
