intermittent backlight after replacing thermal paste

Hi there, i replaced the cpu thermal paste following the great ifixit guide but since then then screen backlight goes off when the screen is past a certain angle (image still there but v dark). I've read that a cable could be pinched and causing this, is this cable possibly effected by the thermal paste job or is it just very bad luck and coincidence of something wearing out?
