iPod 4th Generation or Photo: Camera shutter screen stays closed

Hello,

I have an IPOD 4th gen and when opening the camera application, the shutter on the screen stays closed. Also, the screen seems to flicker a bit as if the app is trying to access the camera, but can't. So I replaced the rear-facing camera, and still no luck. Is it possible this is a software issue? Could the issue be with the front facing camera? Inquiring minds want to know.

iPod 4th Generation or Photo: Replacement Battery appears to be dead?

I recently replaced my iPod battery and all was well for a couple of days. I then fully charged my battery and let it run down. I recharged it again and it will no longer charge up at all.

I tried to do a firmware restore as advised on this site but when I plugged it into iTunes it wasn't recognised and it displays this picture of what looks like a broken battery.

iPod 4th Generation or Photo: Icon keeps appearing? Possibly dead battery?

I bought this ipod on ebay for 25 dollars as a back up to my first generation ipod. The seller informed me of this problem. So I got it today, and basically no matter what I do, it is showing an icon with an adapter and a power outlet. I tried plugging it into the mac and the PC. No change. Is this a dead battery? I assuming it isn't the hard drive? If so does this website sell the battery so that I can replace it?

iPod 4th Generation or Photo: iPod freezes when adding music from iTunes.

I've had this iPod for under A year and it has worked fine until recently. First it started freezing during songs, so I would perform a hard reset and it would flash the apple logo and then show me the sad iPod picture with the exclamation mark, I would set it aside for a moment and reset it again and it would play fine after that. This started happening more frequently and had the added effect of skipping certain songs like a scratched up cd, or strait not playing songs like input an unsupported file type on it, so I decided to preform a factory reset. It seems to work flawlessly now with the exception that when I try to reload it with music, it will add like maybe one or two songs and my device freezes up. The songs it adds will work fine but it refuses to let me add anymore music. It says something about how iTunes can't find the software on my iPod needed to sync, I'm not at my computer at this time but that it pretty close. I have preformed the diagnostic by pressing the select and left buttons, ran an hd scan and it says "staring scan..." For a bit and then just resets, reset the ipod, restored the ipod, formatted the ipod and then restored I again all to the same conclusion.

iPod 4th Generation or Photo: Logic board shorter screw goes where?

After removing the logic board screws to lift the board a bit to lever off the stuck-on battery I noticed that one of the screws was shorter than all of the others, but it was not obvious which of the screw holes it came from. Reassembled with a new battery and the screws inserted at random everything works so far. Was I lucky or did it not matter?

iPod 4th Generation or Photo: I replaced iPod battery but why wont it stay powered up?

I ordered ipod replacement battery. I followed directions and installed battery into ipod. I noticed when I compared both batteries that the model numbers were different and the coupling cables were on opposite ends. I reversed new battery with label side down and reattached the cables. I snapped the case back together and attempted to charge ipod using the belkin ac adaptor 2.0 USB cable. Ipod powered up and the interneal circuitry on the hard drive was working. When I attempted to attach the USB to my computer to troubleshoot whether it would be recognized on the Apple itunes website it would not link it up. I disconnected from my computer and turned ipod on. It had about a 25% charge and actually booted up to the start menu. I went to music to see if it would play, it did this but then the ipod froze and the backlight stayed on. Does anyone know if this is a motherboard problem and I have "fried" the ipod? If so, I now have an expensive paperweight. Thanking you in advance.

iPod 4th Generation or Photo: Failed restore. Tried plugging into wall outlet but still won't work.

iPod 60GB "photo" (1st gen to have color display, from 2005).

Was still running strong, but had gotten cluttered with duplicates, had no room to add new music.

So, I tried to do a "Reset/Restore" in iTunes in order to clean it up and replace music I didn't use much with new stuff. I'm using a pretty recent version of iTunes on a MacBook that I bought new about 15-18 months ago.

Went OK until it said that to complete the reset, I had to disconnect from the computer and plug the iPod into the wall charger. I don't have the original wall adapter from 2005, but I have a combo car/wall charger as well as my Kindle USB/Wall plug-in. I've used 2 different USB/iPod cables with these (one from an iPod nano and one an aftermarket type that came with the car/wall combo charger).

Still the iPod does NOTHING but display the "adapter plugging into wall" icon. I've also plugged the iPod into my MacBook and into a Windows machine, and neither one recognizes that anything at all has been plugged in.

Is there any way to at least force the iPod/MacBook combo to recognize that a device has been plugged in? Or is there a specific type of wall adapter/USB cable that this type of iPod will acknowledge so the #@%! thing will go to the next phase of the 'reset/restore'?

Thanks in advance!

When I turn on the iPod, I have the Folder icon. I can hear the hard drive spin up smoothly for a second or two then it goes silent. When connected to the PC the iPod screen shows connected for a split second then immediately goes to the OK to Disconnect but iTunes never recognizes it. When not connected to a PC the apple logo comes up then it just goes to the folder icon for a few seconds then the screen goes blank. I can see the battery icon when connected to the PC and it is fully charged.

When I try connecting it to my PC to Restore, it is not recognized in iTunes or PC and sometimes I get a message on my PC saying that the USB attachment ( i.e. iPod) is not recognized and Windows 7 Portable Devices WPD Filesystem Volume Driver portable device cannot be started. Other times when the iPod is connected to the PC there are no USB connection errors and the Windows 7 Portable Devices show a volume E:\ but the volume is not readable by Windows but still no recognition in iTunes.

I have tried different usb ports and a firewire connection to no avail. What could be causing this? Is it the logic board? Hard drive? Something else? Any solutions or suggestions to remedy this would be appreciated.

I was listening to my iPod classic in the car and picked a song and it crashed. Ironically it was Sweet Dreams. But anyways now it shows a sad face icon. I tried resetting it dozens of times and it makes this annoying weird sound and keeps on resetting and resetting even when I don't press a button. I'm selling it on eBay. I hope to fix it by tommorow but I'm not sure exactly how to fix it. HELP PLEASE!!!

iPod 4th Generation or Photo: Will a ZIF-to-pins adapter fit in an iPod?

Rather than buy a new iPod Classic, I'd like to resuscitate my old iPod Photo, which has a dead hard drive, with a higher-capacity ZIF drive. I've found an adapter that should do the trick, whose description even mentions the iPod (in broken English), but looking at the iFixit guide for HDD replacement, I can see that things are pretty tight in there. Here is a close-up of the adapter board:

(Click to enlarge. Remember that it uses a slim ribbon cable, pictured at the link above, as well.)

It's possible that if it works at all, it would only work to put a 5mm-thick ZIF drive into one of the thicker, higher-capacity iPod models that were made for 8mm-thick drives, which could leave some room for the adapter. Or it could also work for the thinner models (like I have), or it could be there's no way it would fit in either case. Can anyone who is very familiar with these HDD replacements say with certainty whether this would fit, for either the thinner or the thicker iPod models?
