iPad 2 GSM: Back cover of iPad "Wifi only" usable?

Hello,

Here is the story: The back plate of an iPad 2 Wifi & 3G needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, I was given a "Wifi only" back plate rather than a "Wifi & 3G" one.

Although there was a SIM Card in the slot, the owner of the iPad told me that he doesn't need or work via the SIM Card but via Wifi only.

I was wondering if it is possible to use this new back plate at all. Can I just fix the card unit with adhesive tape (there are no holes, of course, for it)?

This is my first repair of an iPad, so I would appreciate any input.

iPad 2 GSM: Home button not responding after digitizer replacement, how can I fix?

I've just replace the digitizer on my iPad 2 GSM, and now the home button doesn't respond. I don't see how the home button even interfaces with the logic board, as it seems to just be a small PCB board behind the actual button, that doesn't connect to anywhere... Any ideas of how to fix please?

iPad 2 GSM: Replaced Screen but now won't sleep/lock

I recently replaced my Ipad2 screen. Everything went smoothly except now my Ipad won't go to sleep/lock when I press the power button. If I press and hold the power button the Ipad powers off, and if I press the power button+home it takes a screen shot. So the hardware must be fine...right? What could be wrong? Another page says: http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/85009...

This says to Unplug the power to it...what does this mean? How do I do that? Thanks! Any other ideas?

iPad 2 GSM: iPad 2 w/ Water Damage recognized by iTunes but blank

I recently received an iPad 2 that had Tea Spilled on it several months ago. The iPad was turned off immediately and placed in rice for a month or so. I am reasonably sure that it is dry now.

Upon receiving it, I connected it to my Macbook. iTunes immediately recognized it, downloaded the software update for it, and then attempted to restore the firmware, which it tried to do until I had it stop around an hour later.

My question is the following: Does the fact that iTunes recognized it indicate that the iPad is repairable? Is it possible that I might take it apart and clean it to make it fully functional?

Baring that, is their a troubleshooting procedure, or "most likely fix" that I can use to repair thsi ipad?

iPad 2 GSM: New iPad 2 OEM battery causes continuous reboots?

I've replaced my iPad 2 battery with an OEM battery because I broke the battery controller board on the original battery.

The new OEM battery actually seems to work and charge perfectly but it seems to be making the iPad unstable since it reboots every 2-4 minutes even when connected to power.

I've had the logic board moved over to another iPad 2 3G and there it works perfectly, so the problem doesn't seem to be the logic board.

Does anyone have an idea for a fix that doesn't mean getting a new battery?

Update: The problem must be the design of the OEM batteries - does anyone know where to get actual original iPad 2 batteries or used ones?

iPad 2 GSM: Ipad not switching on after attempting digitizer repair.

Hey guys,

A few days ago my gf stepped on my ipad and cracked the screen.

The digitizer itself was still working but the glass was just cracked.

I ordered a new digitizer off ebay and today attempted to do the repair myself following Andrew Bookholt's tutorial here on iFixit ( Installing iPad 2 Wi-Fi EMC 2415 Front Panel Assembly )

Unfortunately after the repair my Ipad is not switching on and im not sure if i might have somehow damaged something during the process.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance,

Bijmin

////

After scouring how to videos it would seem I ripped the power flex cable on the top right of the ipad.

I will order a new cable and hopefully thats all that was damaged... or I might just end up with a new Ipad at the end of the week haha.

I'll leave this post up in case anyone else has any similar issues.

iPad 2 GSM: After replacing screen iPad 2 3G reboots when you move it

Hi,

I have repaired like 5 or 6 broken glasses of iPad 2 WiFi before this iPad 2 3G (GSM). I never had a problem before it.

Everything went fine until I was preparing to reassembly the device. I turn it on before fixing the new glass to the frame and I realized that it turns off every time I make a small move in the device.

So now it is completely useless because you cant hold it without get another reboot.

I have tried switching the logic board. I put in this iPad 2 3G the logic board of an iPad 2 WiFi and the worked fine. But then when I put back the gsm logic board the same problem shown again.

Anyone have any experience with this kind of problem?

I am going to make more test, but I think it would be great if we share more info about iPad 2 troubles.

Thanks and keep repairing!

iPad 2 GSM: Any way to repair scratches in the screen?

I have a single scratch on my screen about 1.5" long. I'm not looking for a polish to "remove" the scratch as that's simply not possible. However I've seen product in the past that was nothing more than a liquid that you would put on scratches (for example, eye glasses) that would fill the scratch and make it so it's doesn't refract light anymore thus...bye bye scratch, for the most part.

It's been a long time since I've used any such product or have worn eye glasses for that matter. However, has anyone used those product on something like the iPad?

iPad 2 GSM: Wifi still poor after wifi cable replacement!

Hi, I'm new here, and I have successfully replaced the digitiser on an iPad 2 after the screen was cracked. During the replacement, the wifi antenna had ripped, so replaced the part with a replacement.

Since replacing the part, it will not pick up any wifi signals in the house and surrounding areas, even the iPhone shows about 3 networks to connect to.

I decided to take it to work as we have 3 wireless networks, and the iPad picks them up with no problems. The wireless access point sits about 5 metres away. About 6 metres away sits a Cisco DSL router configured on 802.11n and it can't pick that up.

Any idea what could be the issue here? Could it be a software problem? I have hard reset the iPad and no difference.

Confused!

iPad 2 GSM: Power Button won't work

Got a broken screen iPad 2, ordered the parts and did the repair myself. I have done multiple iPad 2 screens, so I am pretty familiar with it. This time, however, I seemed to have clipped the Power Button/Volume Button flex cable when getting the broken screen off. Went ahead and bought a new cable. Just installed it so that I could get the iPad back together and came across a really weird issue. Actually I ordered 2 power button flex cables. When I put it on and clipped it in the volume buttons work and the mute switch works, but the power button does not. I unplugged it from the board and plugged it back in. Nothing. Cannot get it to bring up power off info and cannot get it to lock/unlock. Tried the 2nd cable I purchased thinking maybe it was a bad cable...same exact thing. Any ideas?

Update

Apparently the flex cable was defective. Supplier sent new ones and they work great. Thanks!

iPad 2 GSM: Water damage no restore error 1600/1601/1602

Hi,

I have several iPhone and iPad which have a similar problem often. They have almost all experienced a different accident:

- Flood damage

- Big crash

- Error recovery

All these devices will not start and shows no signs of life.

I can put in DFU mode and try a restore, when prepare the iPhone / iPad for the restoration, the device disconnects and then nothing. iTunes seems to find the device but can not find it. After waiting a few minutes, iTunes gives me the error 1600/1601/1602.

I think it's a motherboard problem. There is a concern of auto-boot, as I am obliged to put into DFU mode so that the device responds a little.

I already exchanged the motherboard to test the components that work properly and still the same problem.

Do you have any solutions or tips for me?

iPad 2 GSM: What are the different inertial sensor in the iPad 2 3G?

Good morning everyone,

I am currently working on an algorithm that uses iPad 2 inertial sensors. I learn a lot reading the iPad 2 teardown made by iFixit.

Yet I still have some questions :

>> The iPhone 4 have 3 accelerometers, 3 gyrometers and 3 accelerometers. What about the iPad 2 3G?

>> I understand that the iPad 2 has ST Microelectronics MEMS and I found the accelerometers thanks to the reference given in the teardown (LIS331DLH). Yet it is impossible to find the gyrometer using the reference AGD8 210. Any ideas why?

>> Finally, what about the magnetic sensor (compass)? Does the iPad has ones? Is it a three axis compass or only a one axis? What is the reference of this MEMS?

Thanks a lot for your help. I need these informations in order to develop an inertial filter and I need to know what informations I will be able to use.

Have a good day.
