iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: Why does my monitor still falls out after replacing LED Driver Board?

Hello hello!

I'm new to Fixit. Just used it last night to replace the LED Driver Board on my 27" Imac. After putting it all back together I felt like I had just saved 500$ but after one hour it became clear I did not solve the problem by replacing my LED Driver Board... :(

The screen still falls out without warning.

It seems to stay on however if I put the brightness the lowest...but that's not what I want.

Is their someone with a similar problem???

could it be I should fix another part of the computer?

Thank you!

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: SSD compatibility (Thermal Sensor Connector)

I have a 27" i7 iMac that I bought close to two months ago now, and I would like to replace the internal HDD with a SSD, and I have a 2.5" to 3.5" form factor converter. The only thing I have noticed is that there is nowhere on the SSD to plug in the Termal Sensor Connector.

Do I just ignore it? Can I?

This is the SSD that I ordered: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

I am currently booting off that SSD, which is connected via USB 2.0, and I believe that its being bottlenecked by USB 2.0.

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: Dual drive via optical bay on mid-2010 27" iMac?

Installing iMac Intel 27" EMC 2309 and 2374 Dual Hard Drive

Is this method compatible with the mid-2010 / EMC 2390 / iMac 11,3 model?

From what I've gathered, I'm guessing it's not recommended because mid-2010 machines support dual drives without losing the optical drive. But if I want a more simple installation, can I just use a 12.7 mm optical bay enclosure to add an SSD to my machine?

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: How to fix Broken Internal Display Connector on iMac 27"

Hi,

I have an iMac 27" that one of my coworker has damaged the display connector while pulling the LCD hard and snapped some pins from the board. This was done while i was replacing a hard drive that failed. "Common thing with the iMacs." Before coming here i have googled the problem, red so many forums and found a post in Macrumors.com, where people had this issue and fixed it by ordered the small connector and soldering it. I went ahead and ordered that connector, when i got it i quickly start soldering it. Unfortunately it is a bit challenging and spent days to get right without bridging it, but it is impossible. I have become so impatient that i want to throw the whole thing in the garbage, but i have got so many video projects to do being a video editor. I want to know if other people are experiencing this issue, and how to they dealt with it. Also if there are anyway repair places that i send the logic board and they fix it for cheap, i know how much apple is demanding and i just can't afford that. Thank you in advance for any replies.

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: Can I Put A 2009 iMac Logic Board Into 2010 Body?

I bought a used iMac for parts off of Craigslist. I replaced the PSU and it's still not running. The Genius's claim it's the logic board and unfortunately eBay isn't turning up ANY results for 2010 logic boards.

However, there is a Late 2009 i5 logic board:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/661-5428-Logic-B...

Would I be able to swap out the one I have (which I believe is a 3.2GHZ i3) with this one? They have the same model number attached (A1312)...it would save me a ton of money rather than going through a service shop and spending upwards of a thousand dollars.

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: 2009 Logic Board works in 2010 Body

I had some trouble recently when I bought a 2010 27" iMac off of Craigslist for cheap/parts. Turns out it was the logic board, and other than the overpriced boards sold new, the only one on eBay that was close enough was a 2009 model.

So I bit the bullet for about 300 dollars and finally received it yesterday.

IT WORKS!

I couldn't find any information with this exact information and was excited that it did indeed work. Hopefully this will help someone with a similar problem some time. This was NOT a C2D board that I put in, I can not confirm if that would work or not.

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: Used iMac Not Booting, What Should I look for?

I just bought a 27" iMac off of Craigslist, 2010, and it was sold as not complete and without a hard drive.

I opened it up and was struck by the fact that everything appears to be in order, it has 16GB of RAM, and only the hard drive is missing. There were quite a lot of screws missing (only three holding on the panel, should be 8), and the isight was dangling loosely...

When I first received it, i tried to boot it up. No dice. Nothing at all. No beeps, no whir of the fan, just as if weren't plugged in. Figured that might be related to the hard drive missing, so I put in an old one that has OSX on it and still nothing.

I'm concerned that perhaps the Power Supply isn't working properly and/or needs replacing?

What should I be looking for in something like this? All cabling looks intact, and if not for the hard drive, I'd think it was A-OK.

Thoughts?

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: The display boots up with vertical yellow lines.

It started out booting up with yellow vertical lines and grey dots in the background and that was all you could see. When I boot into safe mode the lines are still there (sometimes) but at least I can see everything and get into what I want such as system preference in order to change the display settings. The first five times I fixed this by booting into safe mode and changing the display resolution from the default to something else. Then the Mac would boot up just fine and last for about two weeks at which time it seems to reset its display resolution to the default setting and therefore revert back to this display problem. Today, the problem arose again but this time when I change the display settings and restart, the settings do not stick. It automatically resets to default and the problem still occuring. I have tried an external monitor and the problem still exists which tells me it's not a LCD problem. I'm wondering if it could be the pram battery since the settings aren't holding. If not, I’m thinking it’s a bad video card. Either case, I'd like to try and fix it and get some more experience with Macs under my belt. I’m a PC girl and I only starting learning Macs this last year. Suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank You!

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: logic board / display connector L9000 coil charred

The small SMD coil (L9000) under the display connector on the logic board is charred.

The display connector was damaged previously (broken shield) and every time I was transporting the iMac I had to either smack it or open it and wiggle the display cable in order to make it work.

This time it might short-circuited one of those pins to the ground (the twisted wobbly shield) and hopefully only that inductance died.

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: Left DIMM slots not working

So I performed an upgrade to my 2010 iMac by upgrading its ram from 4gb to 16gb and also installing a second HD using the ifixit kit and instructions.

The install went smooth, but after powering back on the two left dimm slots on the Mac no longer work. I can populate both right slots , but any ram placed in the left slots (facing the front left side) doesn't work.

I'm assuming I didn't seat the logic board back correctly, or possibly bumped something else?

Any ideas would be appreciated. Technically I don't need the slots (just losing out on 4gb of ram) but I'm concerned something bigger is wrong.

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: Is CPU upgrade on iMac from i5-2500S to i7-2600 (snd bridge) possible?

Current CPU: i5-2500S (2.7ghz Sandy Bridge i5)

(same as the $1699 model on apple online store)

Upgrade to CPU: i7-2600 (3.4ghz Sandy Bridge i7)

(a $200 upgrade "option" on the high end $1999 model on apple online store).

TPD is 65W on the i5, and 95W on the i7. Both share the same socket (LGA 1155)

I am considering a CPU upgrade (and an SSD upgrade while the beast is on the operating table!). I have heard some success stories on the mid 2010 models.

I want to hear from this community and see what the results are in real life trial (there is information out there that says it might be possible, but without any confirmation).

Cost of i7-2600 : $300

Resale value of the i5-2500S : about $150-$200 (OEMs get it for around $200)

For $150, I don't mind the cost of upgrade at all! :-)

I'll also be adding a SSD off the 6GBPS line while I have this sucker open, and will also fit a eSATA port (as per OWC guide).

If I do decide to do this, I'll post extensive photos and instructions of the whole process.

I am familiar with the fairly detailed answer at everymac - is it possible to upgrade CPU in the alluminum iMacs:

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: Dead iMac, pinout PSU and hardware troubleshooting

Trying to change the CPU of my iMac from i3 550 to i7 860 somethhing is gone wrong. After trying to turn on the iMac it seems like it's died at all. No noise, no fan activity, no beeps, nothing when I press the On button.

The four leds on the motherboard are all switched off. Note that the AC source is ok, the AC cable is ok (tried 2 surely working), I checked connection between AC and power supply (there is a little noise like a spark when I connect the AC cord), I checked 50 times the connection between power supply and logic board. But I don't know how to verify the power supply, I don't have the right pinout and I don't know if in standby mode the PSU will give voltage to the pins.

I thought to play my Mac with new quadcore CPU, but I'm without my Mac at all... very sad.

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: Dust in the panel - any chance to clean it?

Hi guys,

I've got this iMac and for quite some time now it started collecting dust *in* the panel. At first it looked like it was just between the magnetic glass and the panel, but when I removed the glass to add a SSD and clean the panel I realized it's not just between the two parts.

So is there any way to open the panel and clean the dust out? It feels like it's getting worse and worse every week, especially on light backgrounds. It a grayish haze covering most of the left half of the screen.

Thanks a lot!

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: broken logic board, i3 same as i7?

Hello,

I've bought a iMac 27" 2.93 GHz Quad Core i7 early 2010. The seller told that the display port on the logic board is broken and that "the repair shop" told him it cannot be fixed.

Maby it can be fixed if I resolder a new connector.... But if this is not gonna work is it possible to swap the logic board with a i3 or i5 logic board and put the i7 CPU in that i3 or i5 board?

I've read that it's possible to upgrade a iMac 27" i5 to a i7, but I don't know if all the connectors are the same on the logic board ?

Does the iMac 27" (2009-2010) i3, i5 and i7 all use the same logic board?

Hope somebody can help....

Update

Dear,

I replaced broken keyboard connectors on the MacBook A1278, I think it's almost the same...

When I've the iMac here I will check the logic board part number, and check if it's the same as the i3 or i5 version.

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: Need to find part not available at iFixit store

Hello everybody,

I've taken my iMac apart due to the problem described in this answer, and it looks like I need a new part. However, iFixit doesn't sell it (it's a ribbon cable that connects to the audio in and audio out ports).

The local Mac store said they'd fix it for $170, but that they have an agreement with Apple that they have to do the repairs themselves (boo). Does anybody know where I can buy this part? (for clarification, this is an iMac 11,1)

Thanks!

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: I have a scratch on the glass of my 27 inch iMac.

I want to know if there is something that can buff out the scratch or is the glass tinted and in trying to buff out the scratch will I cause further damage the glass. I also thought about replacing the glass but don't even know where I would start looking other than a Apple Service Center. Do you have any suggestions?

iMac Intel 27" EMC 2390: Can I add HD to my 27" iMac w/SSD existing?

Most want to replace their existing hard drive or swap the HD for an SSD -- I want to go the other way.

I have a Mid 2010 27" iMac that I bought with the existing SSD installed. I'm now looking to add a hard drive in the bay where there is plenty of space for it.

There is a power cable available, but no extra SATA cable (it is already on the existing SSD.) Is there a way to add the second drive?
