MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: How do I slide the Black Bezel Hinge on Display Assembly 1/8"

I am trying to replace the Display Assembly on a MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011. The company that we normally order parts from sent replacements with the Black Hinge Bezel slide approx 1/8" too far to the right. As a result the display assembly simple will not fit into the Upper case. I have gone back to the company for help, and they said, " just slide it over! It's an easy fix!" I have found this fix one time on your site and was looking for it again. I wanted to see it here (iFixit) before I attempted the fix, just to dot the "i's" and cross the "t's" before I attempted it. I simply cant find it again, and would appreciate your help in locating the fix. I think the fix actually showed the removal of the Bezel. Thanks in advance.

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: Can you replace a keyboard for me?

Hi,

I have found instructions for doing just about everything for Macs on your site, but I don't see anything about you guys doing the repairs. I need a new keyboard for my MacBook Air 11". Can you guys replace it for me and if so, how much would it cost? The touch pad works fine and only some of the keys are affected. The keys that don't work aren't loose - they just either don't type the character or type a string of characters. Left Shift and Caps Lock work intermittently, so I think completely replacing the keyboard is in order.

Thanks a bunch,

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: My Air works without battery. Should I replace it?

Been to our local so-called "Apple Service" since we don't have the official Apple Store and it was quite useless, the advised not to fix it as they could not guarantee the operation.

I was about to abandon my Air because it wasn't able to charge at all (after the tea spill) but tried to boot it up without the battery. Boom, it went up! ;) Whatta? The service folks won't say if I have to replace the battery, that's why I need you. Is it battery? Will it work with new battery?

Thanks

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: Power button not working, computer cannot be completely off

Hi there,

I accidentally knocked a glass of water over and some of the droplets from that hit my keyboard. I dried it off immediately and continued to use my MBA like normal. Ten minutes later the keyboard and trackpad completely stopped working, with the exception of the power button.

So I turned it off and on and finally did the 'Shift + Control + Alt + Power Button" combination while the computer was off, which worked and recovered the keyboard and trackpad functionality, though full functionality came back in pieces. Now every button is fully functional, though sometimes when pressing delete it backspaces excessively.

At first the processor was operating at 300% capacity which of course made the computer extremely slow, but that calmed down as well.

Now the only problems are as follows:

- Computer sporadically becomes slow / fan runs excessively

- Power button does not work, so I shut down through the Apple Icon menu.

- The power button does seem to work when the computer is completely shut down, as pressing it will wake it up. The shut down options just don't show up anymore when the computer is on.

Any ideas?

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: Is it worth disassembling keyboard from front-cover to fix 2 keys?

Hey guys.

My kid spilled a cup of tea with sugar on wife's Air. Now it doesn't charge with it's own charger (14.5V, 3.1A) but it does with macbook pro's charger (18.5V, 4.6A). This is weird. Our local "certified" reseller (we don't have Apple Store in out country) suggested to avoid fixing it, since they could not identify the problem. I think they're lame but I'm ok with uncomfy charging. But there's still 2 keys not workng. The comma and period keys. These are quite important and used very frequently. Resseler suggested to replace keboard, but €250 is a bit pricey.

So what I was thinking — to get them fixed by myself. This is apparently circute closing, which in theory is easy to fix. I have experience disassembling our mid 2011 Air. Not the keyboard, but I did clean the logic board and most of other compartments.

What do you think? Is it worth disassembling the front cover from the keyboard and fix it? Are there any downfalls assembling it back?

Another idea I had is to wash the I/O board. I thought that if I could wash it in fresh water it would remove the left sugar out of the connectors. Sounds a bit ridiculous, but what do you think? :)

Notes: it does turn on, it works, just doesn't charge. Actually charging became unstable. I now cannot charge it with charger that I used just 10 mins ago, the one 18.5V.

Thanks.

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: Won't turn on after I bought new "generic" charger

I bought this charger: http://dx.com/p/45w-ac-power-adapter-cha... and used it for 2 days.

I never turn my macbook air off, so I put it to sleep one day and after about two hours I tried to use it, but it wouldn't wake up. No fans, no screen, no noise. Nothing at all. It was dead. (It was plugged on the generic charger during all this time)

The thing is: I don't think the new charger caused the problem (although is the only thing that should make sense):

When I plug the new charger OR the original charger, I get a green light. I opened the macbook, disconnected the battery, plugged the AC charger and tried to power it. This didn't work either.

Is it possible to be a magsafe problem, even if the light on the AC charger is green?

My warranty ended two months ago and I have no idea what the problem can be. Any thoughts?

PS: I have tried everything like PRAM and SMC reset, cmd+control+power. Also tried to leave it for 24 hours without charging and then tried to power it on again. Nothing worked. Nothing happened. It is completely dead.

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: How can I remove stubborn bottom case screws

Please Help :) Any help is much appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Hello. I'm working with my Macbook Air Mid 2011, with power cable connected, and I hear and strange sound from AC power adapter and a little of smoke.

Then, no power up. Charger lights up when connect, but seems there's no power in the laptop.

Do you think is power adapter? Can I save all my information store at SSD disk?

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: Lower case not sitting flush on side

After getting my MacBook Air back from getting serviced (trackpad broke) the lower case has not been sitting flat on the left hand side of the unit (MagSafe, Headphone and Mic side). It's not too visible but when you run your fingers over it the lower case sticks out by about 1mm. It's fine on the other side.

I went ahead and ordered my own screwdriver in order to try and tighten the screws but no luck, the screws were already in fine. I then decided to take the lower case off and put it back on again with no luck still.

It flexes a tiny bit around the edge when you squeeze on it, about the same as the other good side.

I'm not sure if the lower case is warped or something's been installed wrong (battery not in properly?). I don't have the tools to remove the battery right now, only the lower case (not sure why they needed to make the inside parts torx).

The repair was around 6 months ago and I've put up with it since then. My warranty ends in a few weeks so it's now or never. There are no Apple stores around here so my only option would be to bring it in to the place that replaced my trackpad (under warranty with Apple's approval).

I'm willing to DIY (why else would I post here) but first I need to know where the issue lies. Warped case or loose battery are at the top of my list.

Edit: I've contacted the place that replaced the trackpad initially. See how that goes.

MacBook Air 11" Mid 2011: Read the old SSD out of unit and use as external drive?

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a way to take out the SSD out of the unit and be able to read it externally on a Mac.

Reason

I am an engineer and have clients with dead units and I am guessing the the data on the SSD would be fine (no way of knowing at this stage) and would like to be able to take out the SSD and see if I can get to the data for my clients, is there a reader of some sort for this?

Thanks in advance for your help!
