Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic: How to fix frayed earphone wires?

The right side of my earphones stopped working. (This is the 2nd set with the same problem, probably through rough usage)

The problem is not in the ear bud but in the wires near the base. (When I bend or move the cord near the base the sound in both ears works)

I stripped back the plastic casing and the wires are frayed.

There are 5 wires made of very thin filaments and one solid white one

- White

- red

- green

- striped green + orange

- striped red + orange

- striped red + green

white seems to the the only wire unscathed. The rest are very frayed (showing white underneath the orange/red/green filaments)

Any tips for fixing them or is it hopeless in this kind of case and should I just buy a new set?

Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic: I'm losing sound in left ear piece

I got my ear buds over a year ago (Jan. 09) and just the other day, the sound in the left ear-piece would be full power, but then flutter and get quieter, then back to normal again. I don't know if it is a wire problem or the ear piece's speaker. I know it is not the audio jack.

Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic: Removal of switch, add them to better headphones, anyone?

I have iPod headphones. I hate the feel of them in my ears. However, I like the volume control. I have tried searching for Laymans guide to extraction of this controller, and I found this site. Is there anyone else in my boat who would to teach me how to row?

Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic: Earbuds lost, I need new earbuds?

How can I get replacement in-ear earbuds for the new Apple In-Ear Earphones with Remote and Mic?

I've lost a medium and a large one so far, and my other medium-sized earbud is on the verge of getting lost since it is very loose and thus affecting audio quality too.
